How to Order
You may order on-line and pay with a credit card or your PayPal account. If you would like to pay by check or money order please email us with your information. Give full name and address (both shipping and billing, if they are different), include your zip code and a telephone number where you may be reached if we have any questions. Include the catalog product number, quantity, description, and price. Any special instructions should be included: we will make every effort to follow your directions. If you are paying by check or money order, you will need to include the shipping & handling charges for your order when mailing it to us. You should be able to come up with this number by going through the online process up to the point of paying. Please indicate the type of shipping option you are requesting as calculated by our online store. If you are having a problem doing this you can email us your order information and we will come up with an amount and email you an invoice with all charges included. You can then print out the invoice and mail to us with your check or money order. Orders will not be shipped until the check has cleared. Make check out to van Gilder Pottery. Standard Handling charges for orders are $4.50 for orders over $30.00 and $1.00 for orders under $30.00. If your order is under $30.00 we will credit your charge card for $3.50. The Handling Fee covers the processing and packaging of your order. It does not include Shipping Fees - USPS or UPS.
If either the point of sale address or the recipient address is within the state of MD, a 6% MD sales tax applies. The shopping cart will automatically add the Maryland tax amount to your order.
You can now pay for your order with either PayPal or SquareUp. When you get to the payment page you will have the option to continue with PayPal or...directly under that option is a pay with credit card option which goes through Square Up.
PayPal Account Holders
Please be sure that your PayPal shipping address is correct. Sometimes people move and do not update their address within their PP account. We ship to the address that comes through. We have had incidents where a package went to an old address and was returned to us. If this does happen the customer will be responsible for any additional shipping to get the package to its correct address.
If you order on-line, an acknowledgement of your order will be e-mailed to you automatically. If you do not receive it after placing your order, then there may have been an e-mail problem or it may have ended up in your SPAM folder. Please contact us so we can check your e-mail address and correct the problem.
Orders will be processed and shipped from van Gilder Pottery within 4-6 business days of receipt. Weekends and Holidays do not count as business days. We generally ship packages out three times a week as we are both working potters and are not in the office every day. Shipping Fees are calculated through our websites integration with the United States Postal Service (USPS) and United Parcel Service (UPS) based on the weight and dimensions of your items. We reserve the right to adjust a shipping method if selected incorrectly. We will contact you if the actual shipping charge exceeds the charge shown by $5.00. Once a package is turned over to either USPS or UPS the timeline with which that package will be delivered is out of our hands. We have found that USPS Priority Mail does not necessarily take the number of days they (USPS) state for delivery...but rather is often times longer. USPS employees have told us that there is no 'guarantee' that a Priority package will be delivered within the stated time frame though it will likely arrive sooner than shipping USPS Parcel.
We will not be held responsible for ANY fees pertaining to customs, taxes, etc. These are government regulated costs and have nothing to do with vangilderpottery.com. We have no way of knowing what fees an individual country may charge for an overseas shipment. This is the Buyers responsibility to investigate prior to ordering. Our shipping costs are calculated by our online store shopping cart which is integrated with the United States Postal Service. Shipping prices are calculated by the USPS system based on the weight and size of the items purchased, the calculated size of the shipping box required and the destination of the package. Shipping costs are accurate, and we do not mark up those shipping costs (not including the Handling Fee). We ship to foreign locations at our discretion and are not obligated to process foreign orders if we have experienced issues in the past.
Check your order immediately upon receipt: any discrepancy must be reported to van Gilder Pottery within 3 days after you receive your shipment. Otherwise we reserve the right to decline consideration of a discrepancy report.
If you choose to cancel an order before it has been shipped, we will try to accommodate you. Once an order has shipped the Returns section applies.
van Gilder ClayTools - You have 3 days from the receipt of an order to request a refund.
Items must be in 'new' condition (sealed packages, no indication of use, etc.). Returns for reasons other than defective merchandise or an error on our part, carry a 15% restocking/reboxing charge. Upon return receipt of the merchandise you will receive a full refund less shipping costs. We do not refund the shipping fee and return shipping is the responsibility of the customer unless we made the error. Pack the items well and ship to the address we provide you. We are not responsible for any shipping damages of returned items.
Bill van Gilder Pots - I am very careful about packing items securely, bubble wrapped and double boxed. If there should be damage to any items I will replace the broken item if the cause was my fault. I will require a photo as well as a written description of the problem (this is for insurance purposes) and return of the item so that I can properly assess the problem. Return shipping is to be paid for by purchaser. Please note a replacement can take several months if I don't have a similar item in stock. I make pots on a cycle and if I am in a 'making' phase I continue until I have completed enough pots to fill several glaze kiln loads before I move on to the glazing phase. If for some reason you are not satisfied please email me within three (3) days of receiving your purchase and let me know (kindly please) what the problem is. An exchange/store credit for equal value of the item you purchased (minus shipping charges) can be made at this time. *This must be done within three days of receiving your item. The purchaser is responsible for all return shipping costs and will make sure the item is properly packed in its original packaging. Any damage or breakage in the return of the item is the sole responsibility of the purchaser and if such damage occurs, a refund or store credit will not be issued to the the buyer. I DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS ON POTS, but will gladly exchange your item for another. Shipping costs will be the buyers responsibility.

Other than refunding the price of an item you purchased from us, van Gilder Pottery and van Gilder ClayTools is not responsible for loss or damages caused by use of any of our products.
If errors in pricing are shown on the website, we reserve the right to not sell at the listed price. You will be notified if such a discrepancy is an issue.
